  Novel and Bible Study

Missionaries Jere and Ruth Ann Gowin tell the story of Andidi

In 2006, a veteran missionary couple journeyed to West Africa to serve as administrators of an orphanage and evangelize. This story is not about the scope and fruit of their ministry, nor the missionaries themselves. This story is about a treasure of immense value, in a jar of clay, they discovered in the old Gold Coast.

Consider a four year old girl, thrust into slavery by her parents to atone for their sin. The child, Andidi, was cruelly branded to be a wife of the thunder god. Providence governed her young life when, at the age of thirteen, she was set free by an American NGO and taken into an orphanage. It was there the child came to faith in Christ and grew into a powerful witness. Andidi’s story is one of commitment and growth on full display and illustrated by emotional, yet colorful struggles. Conflict, romance, tears, and comedy  tell her story well. The reader discovers the scars she wore most distinctly  were not the ones carved upon her face and arms by the witch doctor; but those carved in her heart by her Savior and Lord.

A novel, doubling as a Bible study, gives us valuable insights on how we can walk as Christ intended for us to walk – in His steps.
